our story
Total Mortgage was founded in 1997 by John Walsh, a former loan officer who saw firsthand that the industry could be better. He built a company designed to truly support loan officers and the way they actually work.
What started as a three-person operation has grown into a national lender with more than 450 employees. During the 2007 housing crisis, one principle guided every decision: only approve loans we knew our borrowers could afford. That discipline helped us navigate one of the most challenging times in the industry and it continues to define who we are today.
Our culture is built on support, collaboration, and a willingness to step in for one another. That mindset carries through to how we serve our borrowers. We don’t just quote rates, we problem-solve, educate, and guide people toward responsible paths to homeownership.
As we continue to grow, we remain focused on raising the standard. We invest in our people, processes, and technology, while actively listening to feedback from those doing the work every day.
