A mirror etching is a great way to add to your home’s elegance without spending a fortune. As long as you’re mildly artistic, you shouldn’t have a problem with this DIY project.
- Clear adhesive vinyl paper
- Craft knife (X-Acto Knife)
- Etching cream
- Paint brush
- Pattern or stencil
- Scotch tape
1. Create your pattern
There are plenty of pre-made stencils for you to choose from, or you can create your own design. If your pattern is intricate, you can scan it into a computer and replicate it there to save time.
2. Apply pattern
Cover the entire surface of the mirror with the adhesive vinyl paper. Take your time to avoid air bubbles. Afterwards, tape your design down.
3. Cut out your design
Use your craft knife to cut out the part of the pattern that you want to be etched. Make sure you press firmly enough to cut through the pattern and the adhesive paper.
4. Etch your design
Put on the latex gloves and use the craft brush to apply a generous amount of etching cream over your stencil. Take your brush and make vertical strokes over the etching, then go back over it horizontally.
After at least ten minutes, rinse the mirror off in the sink. Peel off what’s left of the adhesive paper and clean the mirror with your preferred cleaning solution.
