John Walsh, President at Total Mortgage Services, LLC
In a June 2010 byline article in Scotsman Guide by Total Mortgage Services LLC president John Walsh, the advantages of using a mortgage broker over a retail lender are documented for consumers.
Walsh says mortgage brokers who build strong wholesale-lender relationships and stay abreast of industry changes have several advantages compared to many retail mortgage originators. By working with multiple lenders, brokers can shop for and deliver better rates to borrowers than many retail mortgage operations, largely because of reduced overhead costs.
Walsh also weighs in on the superior customer service which brokers can provide, including the fact many are locally based and geographically relevant to their customers, since they often have much more knowledge of local markets than national banks.
The article also reinforces that notion that many of the brokers still operating in the industry have proven their resilience, and tend to be the most-qualified and most-knowledgeable. Brokers who meet the new standards of tightened rules and guidelines – especially those standards which hold them to a higher level of competence than retail loan originators – shouldn’t be afraid to tout their knowledge and expertise.
